At
the Koffler Vision Group, we suggest that if you have been
diagnosed with diabetes you should have a dilated eye exam at least
once a year. Our eye doctors may recommend more frequent visits
depending on the severity of your disease.
A condition known as diabetic retinopathy may develop in the back
of your eye without your knowing it. All types of diabetes can cause
diabetic retinopathy. This condition can get worse with time. Family
history of diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated glucose levels
and the amount of time you have had the disease are all factors
that affect this condition.
At our center we will keep a careful history of your diabetes,
and will work closely with your primary diabetic doctor in monitoring
your vision. We will determine the health of your eye by slit
lamp examination, ultrasound and fluorescein angiography consultation.
We will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding
laser treatment or diabetic care. A number of publications are
available through the center to help you understand your condition
better.
